As the lazy days of summer come to an end and the month of August creeps by, the thoughts of returning to school is on every ones mind. Parents, students, and teachers go over the memories of the summer gone by and start to think of the school year ahead. Parents are making plans to head out to the local Wal-mart or they are going online to find the best prices for school supplies to get their child set up for the upcoming school year. But, when you home school your child You will need to take a different approach on the supplies that your child needs.

In order for your child to be recognized by the provincial or state educational system, as completing a grade level they will need to pass an exam that is administered by the state or province. As parents, we were responsible for knowing what our child needed to learn for that grade level. As we picked up the proper text books for each subject we also came across a study guide.

It explained some techniques and strategies of how to study and absorb information. It talked about extreme concentration techniques for fifteen minutes on and ten minutes off, fifteen minutes on and ten off… It also described the advantages of repetitiveness. Seeing, hearing, writing and verbally saying something and how the sub-conscience mind embeds the information.

Making the hard decision to educate your autistic child in mainstream education is never going to be an easy one.

Generally speaking a lot of the methods used in mainstream education will not necessarily suit an autistic youngster.

For example most normally developing children will be able to learn using various methods like for example visually, kinesthetically and using auditory learning.

Where as with the autistic child this may not be the case and there for certain conditions within the mainstream classroom should be taken into account before the autistic youngster starts school.

For example teaching students with autism can be helped by remembering most autistic children will be visual learners and will respond better to lessons that are taught visually.

So by adding pictures, images and visual cues or prompts to lessons especially those lessons that involve class teaching will improve the chances of the autistic student understanding and staying focused.

Most autistic children if in mainstream education will have the ability to cope with the education aspect of mainstream school but will probably struggle with the social, communication, imagination and interaction aspects of a normal classroom.

These are the main areas of difficulty for most autistic youngsters.

They lack the social and communication abilities of their normally developing peers, which can lead to social isolation and at times even bullying.

Starting school this year? If you are entering a college or university, beginning a master’s program, beginning a doctorate program, or simply entering high school, you may have noticed that over the course of the last few years the ‘back to school’ shopping list has greatly changed. Instead of simply going for notebooks and pencils, or even special graphing calculators, now many schools insist that their students have specific software. While the software is already often expensive enough, the problem for many can be that a computer is required to operate it. Today, a desktop computer is not nearly efficient enough for many students who need to constantly carry the machine back and forth from class. This means spending the money for a top notch laptop, the software, and on top of that tuition. Some schools now include the computer with tuition, but not all colleges and universities are able to do that, and neither are all students and their families. The truth, however, is that for many areas of study there simply isn’t a way to gain and learn practical job skills without a computer these days. Learning these software suites and packages is absolutely essential, and at the heart and soul of being able to learn the techniques required for a future career in the area of study. Whether a social science, graphic design, mathematics or any number of sciences the number of areas of study requiring computers is not likely to decrease any time soon. The plus side, however, for college students is that with a laptop they can now improve their efficiency if they have 4G wireless internet.

It has been getting more and more parents in this system of educating their children. To put it more simply, home education is the process of learning where children are taught and educated inside the home. This method of educating children has been around for a long time. But it is only now that it has gathered more interest. The reason for its newfound resurgence may be the fact that more and more parents would want to personally look over the education of their children.

This way, parents will be able to oversee what their children learn and be able to teach subjects that really matter. It also enables a student to be educated in a very comfortable and familiar environment- their own home. No longer would children have to adapt to new surroundings, as their home is their classroom. Parent and child can also spend more time together through this unique educational system.

Much of the final grade of high school is spent pondering the future. Many students have
been thinking about and plotting their future for several years already, while
others seem shocked and suddenly aware of the imminent end of their mandatory
schooling. Teachers, counsellors and parents all seem to have opinions and
advice and the choices can feel overwhelming – work, travel and further education
are all options.

Students who have decided to continue their education at colleges and universities have further decisions to make. Regardless of the program they plan to apply for and study
in, the first year is predominantly one of taking pre-requisite introductory
classes. If students are undecided as to what their course of study will be,
this is an excellent opportunity to take a variety of classes across subjects, and to explore
what various programs have to offer, both while at school and in terms of employment
after graduation.

While many students go directly to university, others may chose to begin at community
colleges.

There are a few reasons for doing so. Classes are typically much
smaller in colleges than in universities, where it isn’t uncommon to find
introductory level classes with well over a hundred students. Smaller classes can
allow for an easier transition from the high school milieu. As well, community
colleges are more economical – not only is tuition typically much lower, many
students chose to live at home for another year or two, rather than facing
living costs of living in another city.
